STEM Job-Off and Career Fair

In collaboration with the Albuquerque Community Foundation and the City of Albuquerque, we organized a Job-Off – a dynamic event that brought together 15 New Mexico-based companies. The event featured brief, 2-minute pitches where these companies showcased their organizations and job openings. STEM professionals actively engaged with company representatives across diverse sectors, seamlessly exchanging resumes. The impact was significant, with numerous companies returning to their hiring managers armed with over 35 qualified resumes. As of January 2020, interviews are underway, marking a remarkable success for our expanding annual event. This outcome surpasses our expectations and solidifies the continued growth of this initiative.

In 2017, Boomerang hosted it’s 1st Annual STEM Symposium and Hiring Fair, titled: NM Educated Workforce in STEM (NEWS) Symposium.

Our first event included 115 highly educated STEM participants (60% with PhDs), who met with representatives of New Mexico’s academic institutions, national laboratories, business and economic development communities. Importantly, Thirty employers recruited at the event – from startups all the way up to the national labs and large companies. This event garnered ample press and started STEM Boomerang on a path to supporting NM professionals and employers.

” Businesses have assumed that a talented workforce does not exist because they haven’t found it here. Faculty, teachers, and advisors have focused on helping students get advanced degrees but not in NM economic development or business. The moment this disconnect was clear to us, the solution was obvious: bring New Mexico employers and the educated and highly trained STEM workforce together through Operation Boomerang.” – Dr. Werner Washburne, Founder of Boomerang
